Lemierre's Disease

My healthy, active 18 year old nephew, Justin, contracted a rare disease known as Lemierre's disease. I do not know much about it but I do know it caused Justin to spend 15 days in the hosptial, 11 of those days on a ventilator, and 9 days in a coma. This picture was taken 2 days before he was hospitalized:

And this was taken while he was in the hospital, fighting for his life:

There were no answers as to what was wrong with him for a number of days and it wasn't until the correct diagnosis was made so they could treat appropriately that his health began to turn around. I have to admit that I was beginning to prepare myself for the worst. I know his parents and siblings went through a very wide range of emotions during this time. I am just thankful, once again, for the best possible outcome - full recovery. Our family has not always been so fortunate.
